Sunflower Landing is an innovative, home-like long-term residential treatment facility for adolescents with substance abuse and related problems. We offer a rural county setting with a nurturing environment far from the clutter of everyday life. Pet therapy is vital element of treatment at Sunflower Landing. The adolescents who come to Sunflower Landing are surrounded by the wonderful menagerie of loving pets that live there, including dogs and cats, goats, horses, and a parrot.

 

Residents continue their education in daily classes, working towards a high school diploma or GED and preparing for college entrance exams. Through reaching out to others in need through community service programs, our residents learn the value of selfless service.

Our treatment approach addresses the body, the mind and the spirit. The body is addressed through understanding the neurochemical roots of addiction and related disorders and using diet, sunshine, therapy, play and laughter and medication where appropriate. The mind is addressed through the cognitive-behavioral therapy, where faulty thinking is replaced with the concept: “The problem is not the problem, it is the thought about the problem.” The Spirit is addressed through a spiritually based 12-Step program. Our philosophy addresses the whole individual--mind, body and spirit. Treatment focuses on three main areas: the biochemical roots of addiction, breaking destructive thinking pattern, and cultivating spirituality.
